Antimony trioxide prices rise in China
A Hunan-based producer raised the offer by RMB500-600/t to current RMB29,000/t ex works for antimony trioxide 99.8%min with low content of lead and is expected to conclude a few deals at such a price. "Our production cost increases on higher antimony ingot price, so like many other antimony trioxide producers, we lift our quotation for the material," said the source.
According to the source, although consumers understand the reason why producers increase offers, they are not willing to accept the price adjustment. "Nevertheless, we will insist on the current price; otherwise will suffer a loss," said the source. Meanwhile, the source revealed that the company is still fulfilling some contracts signed early this month at around RMB28,000/t ex works.
The source is conducting production according to orders with a monthly output of around 300t for the time being.
Another Hunan-based producer currently quotes RMB28,500/t ex works for antimony trioxide 99.5%min, up from RMB28,000/t ex works in mid-June, but has not concluded any deals so far this week. The source also attributes the markup of antimony ingot to the price increase of antimony trioxide.
Meanwhile, the source confirmed that the antimony trioxide market is not active and producers have difficulty in persuading consumers to accept higher prices. However, the source revealed that regular customers placed slightly more orders in May and June and they sold more products in the second quarter than they did in the first quarter. According to the source, the company is running normally with an output of around 300tpm but at a thin profit.
Meanwhile, a Guangdong-based trader raised the export offer for antimony trioxide 99.5%min to USD4,250/t FOB China early this week from previous USD4,200/t FOB China, for domestic suppliers raised quotations.

Antimony Metals concentrate supply tight
A Hunan-based producer bought tens of tons of antimony concentrate grading 50%min at RMB22,200 (USD3,246) per metal ton ex works VAT excluded last week. "But for the long-term relationships with the supplier, we would not buy the material at the above price," said the source, adding that the supplier sold the same material at RMB22,500 (USD3,290) per metal ton ex works VAT excluded to some other buyers. According to the source, the price of antimony concentrate rose by almost RMB1,000 (USD146) per metal ton within two weeks.
The source used to purchase antimony concentrate from Lengshuijiang, Hunan, but many mines in the region halted production due to lack of resources or safety and environmental concerns. The supply of antimony concentrate is tightening the area and many antimony ingot smelters have to search for raw material elsewhere. The source produced around 200t of antimony ingot every month the same period of last year, but now the monthly output is only around 100t due to lack of raw material.
The source currently offers RMB29,000/t (USD4,240/t) ex works VAT excluded for antimony ingot 99.65%min.
Another Hunan-based antimony ingot producer confirmed the tight supply of antimony concentrate. Due to short supply in domestic market, the source has been buying imported antimony concentrate from domestic traders.
"The last batch of antimony concentrate we purchased ten days ago was equivalent to around RMB22,000 (USD3,216) per metal tons delivered, but now the price is higher than RMB22,500 (USD3,290) per metal tons," said the source. "Suppliers told us that the material falls short of supply, so they had to raise offers," said the source.
For lack of raw material, the smelter is also running below its capacity of 3,000tpy. In view of the tight supply of antimony concentrate, the source predicts that the antimony ingot price is likely to go up further from current RMB31,000-31,500/t (USD4,532-4,605/t) ex works.

China's Nonferrous Metal Industry Rallies
BEIJING, June 19 -- China's nonferrous metal industry is showing signs of a pickup, said Jia Yinsong, an official with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
According to Jia, the output of ten nonferrous metals arrived at 9.48 million tons in the first five months of this year, down 5.7 percent over the same time last year. However, the output in May registered 3.6 percent increase over April, indicating a recovery.
Copper and aluminum output increased 7.9 percent and 4.8 percent, respectively, to 3.46 million tons and 6.11 million tons from January to May.
Prices of nonferrous metals fluctuated within a small range over the near term, suggesting a stabilized market.
The nation posted increasing electrolytic aluminum imports in view of the different prices between Chinese and global markets.
Investments in the nonferrous metal industry rose 25.8 percent to 82.8 billion yuan in the first five months of this year. The investment structure continued to improve, with those in mineral mining and rolling higher than that in smelting.
Additionally, gold output increased 12 percent in the first five months of this year.
In 2008, China posted 25.2 million tons of ten nonferrous metals output and consumed 25.17 million tons. China's consumption of copper, aluminum, lead, zinc, and nickel accounted for 30 percent of the globe's total consumption.
China's nonferrous metal industry has been suffering from losses since the second half of 2008 due to the global financial crisis.

Magnesium ingot market stable
A North China-based trader bought around 100t of magnesium ingot from a Shaanxi-based smelter at around RMB14,800/t (USD2,164/t) ex works on Monday. The source reported that the market is stable, though one or two smelters raise their offers by RMB50-100/t (USD7-15/t) to RMB14,900-15,000/t (USD2,178-2,193/t) ex works in the name of unavailability of material.
"Actually, the market is in sufficient supply in Shaanxi, and some smelters still have considerable amount of magnesium ingot in stock," said the source. Therefore, the source holds that the price is mostly likely to keep stable in the following two weeks.
Meanwhile, the source predicts that the price may experience a tiny increase in the second half of July owing to decrease in production and also reduced stockpile in the market. According to the source, as blue coke does not sell well, many coke plants in Shaanxi are facing the danger of cutting down output and thus might affect the magnesium production. Additionally, with summer deepening, some magnesium ingot smelters may also reduce output due to the hot weather.
A Shanxi-based producer sold 30-40t of magnesium ingot at RMB15,100/t (USD2,208/t) ex works in the middle of last week and has not closed any business since then. "I feel the market is stable," said the source. "I heard that some smelters are trying to push the price up slightly but I don't think they can succeed."
Running at half of the production capacity of 1,000tpm, the smelter holds a stock of around 200t. The source calls for a stable market for magnesium ingot. "If the price rises significantly either out of strong demand or market manipulation, more smelters will resume production stimulated by higher price. In that case, the market will be at stake again," the source stated.
Meanwhile, the source confirmed that most smelters in Shanxi and Ningxia put their offers at RMB15,100-15,300/t (USD2,208-2,237/t) ex works and the price is RMB200-300/t (USD29-44/t) lower in Shaanxi.

European ferromolybdenum price hiking
A trader reported that they sold a small volume of ferromolybdenum 65% at USD26.1/kg d.p. in warehouse Rotterdam in the beginning of last week, and the price increased to USD26.00-27.00/kg d.p. last weekend. "I heard that some other traders sold materials at USD26.60/kg," said the source.
The trader indicated that consumers are still buying slowly but constantly, so he thinks that the demand will remain stable until this summer.
Another trader confirmed that ferromolybdenum prices have risen to USD26.00-27.00/kg d.p., and he sold several small volume of 2-3t at USD26.50-27.00/kg d.p. last weekend. "You can't buy enough materials from converters because they don't produce with no profits," remarked the trader.
However, a third trader reportedly sold a container of ferromolybdenum 65% in the second half of last week at USD26.00/kg, remarking that the price was already over USD26.50/kg last Friday. The source has another container of ferromolybdenum on hand, and offers USD27.00/kg d.p. in warehouse.
Seeing the hiking ferromolybdenum prices, buyers show more confidence in the market trend, and people have accepted prices around USD10.50/lb for molyoxide. A trader sold 2 batches of molyoxide last week, disclosing that they sold one container at USD10.53/lb, and another 10t at USD10.55/lb.

Antimony trioxide,Antimony Ingot market stable
A Hunan-based producer, with a capacity of around 200tpm, currently offers RMB28,000/t (USD4,094/t) ex works for antimony trioxide 99.5%min, RMB500/t (USD73) higher than the offer at the end of May, but finds it hard to persuade end users to accept this price. "The antimony ingot price has risen to RMB30,500-31,000/t (USD4,459-4,532/t) ex works from RMB29,500-30,000/t (USD4,313-4,386/t) ex works one month ago, so we have to raise our quotation for antimony trioxide," said the source. However, the source revealed that demand for antimony trioxide remains slack and end users are reluctant to accept the price increase.
To avoid risks, the source produces antimony trioxide after receiving orders from customers. "We dare not hold large quantities of antimony ingot on hand, and not hold inventories of antimony trioxide, either," the source added.
The source anticipates that the it will be hard for antimony ingot price to rise further, and the antimony trioxide market is likely to remain stable in the following one or two weeks.
A South China-based consumer plans to buy 20t of antimony trioxide 99.8%min with special requirement for the content of impurity. "Major producers offer us as high as RMB29,000/t (USD4,240/t) ex works with six months D/A, but we may have to accept the price because the product we're inquiring is with superior quality," said the source.
Meanwhile, the source reported that the antimony trioxide market goes stable and the price for standard antimony trioxide 99.5%min is in a range of RMB27,500-28,000/t (USD4,020-4,094/t) ex works for cash payment.

Antimony trioxide,Antimony Ingot export price rise further
A Guangdong-based trader reported that the antimony ingot market appears to be firm presently. The source said, "Many producers claimed that they have no spot material to supply, but I think some of them are holding on for better prices."
The source said major smelters in Hunan currently offer RMB31,000/t (USD4,545/t) ex works and small ones offer RMB28,000/t (USD4,106/t) ex works VAT excluded for antimony ingot 99.65%min. However, the source has no plan to purchase the material as foreign buyers cannot accept the high price. "One of our customers in Europe said they would not buy antimony ingot at prices higher than USD4,700/t CIF Rotterdam," the source said.
The source used to export three or four containers of both antimony ingot and antimony trioxide every month last year, but has not concluded any deals of antimony ingot since early April. "The antimony demand, anyway, is a little stronger than it was in March and April in view of more inquiries in the market," the source added.
"The market supply is indeed tight. Although some producers are holding back from selling, they as well as some traders do not have large quantities of the material in stock," a Hunan-based antimony ingot producer said.
Due to short supply of raw material, the source is running with an output of only 70-80t per month. The source sold a batch of antimony ingot at RMB27,500/t (USD4,032/t) ex works VAT excluded in late May. Although he raised the offer to RMB28,000/t (USD4,106/t) ex works at the end of May, no deal has been concluded at such a price.
The source predicts that the antimony ingot market will keep stable at the current level or rise slightly in June, but he thinks it too early to anticipate the market in July and August.
